FAQ

If you have questions on how to use the GLS, please read the GLIS Help file. It's included in the GLS zip and also there is an online HELP file

Q: Does the GLS come with explanation on how to use/edit it?
A: It contains a browsable HELP file with most basic questions. Since the script-structure has become quit intense, I try not to go into details too much and keep it simple -> most features have a singel variable which is customisable. You may also read the HELP file online

Q: How does the GLS work with Wildform SWFX?
A: The Generated List Scroller is not made as an enhancement or add-on to SWFX. The GLS is a system which creates a scrollable list in a flashmovie, generated from an external TXT file, it's "simply" a flash-4 file. It has advanced scroll features like e.g. "direct set to position" and has been developed especialy for showcases (like the demo of the PJ collection plugins) and portfolios.
I developed it as a quick means of showing all my generated PJ collection effects (swf's) and quickly updating it as soon as there were changes.

Q: Why is it worth the price?
A: As a matter of fact, my opinion and concluded from other people's reactions is that the GLS is immensely underpriced. If you would buy a simple background FLA or a basic animation FLA at flipcup.com or bigshotmedia.com you'll pay around US$ 30 up till US$ 200. This for a product which takes likely a couple of hours at maximum to create. The GLS is a higly advanced system which has taken months to develop and it can save you hours or weeks of work (depending of course on your knowledge level ;-). Even considering small raises in price with releases of new features, I try to keep the price 'a real bargain' to keep people happy, more clients and more exposure to my work as a freelance designer/developer.

Q: Does it work in Flash 5 or MX or higher?
A: Yes. As the GLS was developed on flash 4, MM flash version 4 or higher (5/MX) can read/support the .fla file.

If you have flash MX2004, I would reckomend waiting with GLS purchase. Unless you also have Flash MX. This is because Flash MX 2004 considers variables which have not been defined as NaN. The GLS uses "counter" variables like for example i = i + 1 or you may know it as i++ which in Flash 4,5,MX works fine, BUT in MX2004 it will need an aditional initial defining of i like i = 0 before the increment action actually works. Since the GLS uses extensive counter variables, I still need to get around to adding an extra script routine to all the nessesary actionscript frames.
If you also have Flash MX, simply save-as Flash MX movie and reopening the flash file in Flash MX also should do the trick.

Q: What do I need to use and/or edit the GLS?
A: Since teh GLS is principaly a .fla file (the GLS zip contains 1 for SWF and 1 for HTML version, and is accompanied by nessesary html files/pages, list .txt files and .swf files/examples, you will need Macromedia Flash 4 or higher to edit the GLS to your needs. Although it works as it comes, almost certainly you will want to change the layout to your liking. It does not matter if you work on Mac or Windows, both should read the .fla files without problems.

Q: I work on Mac OS 9.x, can I use the GLS?
A: You can use the GLS on any Mac, see question above. The only drawback for mac OS 9.x is that the listmanager for MAC, to edit the menu list .txt file, works on OS 10+. So that will mean either manual updating the .txt list or using a PC to do the list editing with windows version.

Q: How do I get the latest version?
A: Normaly the latest version goes out by autmatic list-mailing. If for some reason you haven't received it, simply mail me including order info and I'll send it. Regularly I notice several Undelivered or Return mail for changed adresses, 'became-invalid' adresses, disk-space-exceeded adresses or other reasons for not being able to send the update to the email-adress.

Q: I payed for it, now how do i get it?
A: If you purchase with Paypal or Ifulfill, within 2 working days you will receive it by email. In case you use ifulfill and used a 'free email adress' or there are irrugularities or no adress match for your creditcard, you will receive a request for the extra digits on back of your card (fraud prevention)
